Cornell University Offers New Online Certificate Program on Women in Leadership

Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, has announced that it is offering a new online course of study leading to a Women in Leadership certificate. The five-course certificate program examines the issues facing women in leadership positions and offers strategies for handling them. These include work/life balance, negotiation skills, and emotional intelligence. The program can be completed in three months with five, two-week courses. Students can expect to devote three to five hours per week to the program.

The Women in Leadership certificate program was developed by Deborah Streeter, the Bruce F. Failing Sr. Professor of Personal Enterprise and Small Business Management. Professor Streeter notes that “professional women today have access to lots of leadership materials, but few consider how gender interacts with organizational culture to block advancement. This certificate is a rare resource for women, giving them a private space for self-reflection paired with research and real-world insights. It can also help all organizational leaders, including men, better understand the gender dimensions of leadership.”

Professor Streeter is a graduate of the University of Connecticut. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in agricultural economics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
