In Memoriam: Kitty Lee Gardner Dickerson, 1940-2017

Kitty DickersonKitty Dickerson, professor emerita and former chair of the department of textile and apparel management at the University of Missouri, died on January 17 in Brooklyn, New York. She was 76 years old and had suffered from cancer.

A native of Willis, Virginia, Professor Dickerson was raised on a rural farm with no electricity or running water. She was the first member of her family to go to college. Professor Dickerson earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the College of Home Economics at Virginia Tech. She obtained a Ph.D. at St. Louis University.

Dr. Dickerson began her academic career at Virginia Tech and then joined the faculty at the University of Missouri. She retired from teaching in 2010.

Dr. Dickerson is the author of the textbooks Textiles and Apparel in the Global Economy (Prentice Hall, 1998) and Inside the Fashion Business (Pearson, 2002).
