University of California, Riverside Scholar Honored With a Book Award

Anthea Kraut, professor of dance at the University of California Riverside, will receive the 2015-16 Emory Elliott Book Award that honors a book published by a faculty member in the College of Humanities at the university. Emory Elliott was a distinguished professor of English at the University of California at Riverside, who died in 2009.

Professor Kraut is being honored for her book Choreographing Copyright: Race, Gender, and Intellectual Property Rights in American Dance (Oxford University Press, 2015). The book examines the history of choreographers’ attempts to secure copyright protections for their creations.

An earlier book by Professor Kraut is Choreographing the Folk: The Dance Stagings of Zora Neale Hurston (University of Minnesota Press, 2008). She holds a Ph.D. from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois.
