Women Students Are Increasing Their Large Share of the Study Abroad Population

mapAccording to the Institute of International Education’s latest annual Open Doors report, that provides detailed information on foreign students who come to U.S. colleges and universities and U.S. students who study abroad, women make up a large percentage of U.S. students who choose to study abroad.

The data shows that during the 2014-15 academic year, 313,415 American students went abroad to engage in academic pursuits at foreign colleges and universities. Of the 313,415 American students who studied abroad, 66.6 percent were women. This is up from 65.3 percent in the previous academic year. It is the highest percentage of women among the study abroad pool in the past decade.
