In Memoriam: Sandra Lynn Morgen, 1950-2016

Sandra MorgenSandra Morgen, a professor of anthropology at the University of Oregon, died recently from ovarian cancer. She was 66 years old.

Dr. Morgen joined the faculty at the University of Oregon in 1991 as an associate professor of sociology. She joined the anthropology department in 2002. From 1991 to 2006, Dr. Morgen was director of the Center for the Study of Women in Society at the university. During her tenure at the university, she also served as associate dean of the Graduate School and vice provost for graduate studies. Earlier in her career, she taught at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina, the University of Massachusetts, and Pennsylvania State University. Dr. Morgen also served as president of the Association of Feminist Anthropology. She was the editor of Gender and Anthropology: Critical Reviews for Research and Teaching (American Anthropological Association, 1990).

Professor Morgen was a graduate of the University of Texas. She held a Ph.D. in anthropology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
