In Memoriam: Dorothy McDonnell Cooke, 1946-2016

Dorothy CookeDorothy McDonnell Cooke, a former nursing faculty member at Saint Louis University in Missouri, died late last month, two days short of her 70th birthday.

A native of St. Louis, Dr. Cooke graduated from the St. John’s Mercy School of Nursing. She went on to earn a bachelor’s degree at the University of Georgia. Dr. Cooke graduated from the flight nurse program of the U.S. Air Force School of Aerospace Medicine at Brooks Air Force Base in Texas. For her service during the Vietnam War, she was awarded the Bronze Star. Dr. Cooke held a master’s degree in nursing from the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta and a Ph.D. in health organization research from Saint Louis University.

Dr. Cooke served on the faculty at the School of Nursing at Saint Louis University for 32 years. She retired in 2014.
