Nine Women Faculty Members Taking on New Duties

kim2Miso Kim was named an assistant professor of experience design in the College of Arts, Media, and Design at Northeastern University in Boston. Since 2013, she was a designer for Cisco Systems.

Dr. Kim is a graduate of Sungkyunkwan University in Seoul, South Korea, where she majored in architectural engineering. She holds two master’s degrees and a Ph.D. in design studies from Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh.

dtwhite-200Diana White is a new assistant professor of mathematics at Clarkson University in Potsdam, New York. She was a postdoctoral fellow at the Institute of Mathematics in Marseille in France.

Dr. White is a graduate of Memorial University of Newfoundland in Canada. She earned a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in applied mathematics from the University of Alberta.

hayden-400Erika Check Hayden was named director of the Science Communication Program at the University of California, Santa Cruz. She will begin her new job in January. Since 2001, she has been a journalist for the magazine Nature. She has been based in San Francisco since 2006 and has taught in the Science Communication Program at the University of California, Santa Cruz since 2010.

Check Hayden is a graduate of Stanford University, where she majored in biology.

stockAnn Marie Stock, a professor of Hispanic studies and a professor of film and media studies at the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia, was appointed the inaugural William & Mary Libraries Faculty Scholar. In this role, Professor Stock will facilitate faculty-librarian partnerships and support library fundraising efforts.

Dr. Stock is the author of On Location in Cuba: Street Filmmaking During Times of Transition (University of North Carolina Press, 2009). She holds a Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota.

bushTee Bush was promoted to associate professor of general education at the Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture in Curtis. She joined the faculty at the college in 2010 as an instructor in horticulture.

Bush holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in horticulture from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. She is currently studying for a doctorate in higher education leadership and administration.

lourdes-melgar-wilhelm-fellow-mit-cisLourdes Melgar was named the Robert E. Wilhelm Fellow at the Center for International Studies at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. She is the former deputy secretary of energy for hydrocarbons for the nation of Mexico. Dr. Melgar will spend the current academic year writing and conducting research on women’s role in political and social transformation.

Dr. Melgar is a graduate of Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley, Massachusetts. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in political science from MIT.

liuYinxing Liu was appointed assistant professor of Asian studies at Bates College in Lewiston, Maine. From 2012 to 2014, Dr. Liu was a lecturer and a Mellon Postdoctoral Fellow in the Humanities at Bates College. Earlier, she was a postdoctoral associate at the East Asian Studies Center at Yale University.

Dr. Liu holds a master’s degree in comparative literature from Pennsylvania State University. She earned a second master’s degree and a Ph.D. in art history at Yale University.

candis-pizzetta-mugCandis Pizzetta, who has been serving as an associate professor in the department of English and modern languages at Jackson State University in Mississippi, was appointed associate vice president for research and scholarly advancement at the university.

Dr. Pizzetta is a graduate of the University of Arkansas. She holds a master’s degree from Mississippi College and a Ph.D. in English from Baylor University in Waco, Texas.

wanguofangGuofang Wan was named chair of the department of teacher education and educational leadership at the University of West, Florida in Pensacola. She as a professor and director of the Office of Graduate Studies in the School of Education at the Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond.

Earlier in her career, Dr. Wan taught at Ohio University, Pennsylvania State University, and Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois.
