Women’s College Graduate Named to the Minnesota Supreme Court

mcKeig_portrait.f8ae8ccfAt the beginning of the year, only one of the highest courts in the 50 states had a majority of women justices. This was the state of New York. Now there are two.

Anne McKeig was appointed an associate justice of the Minnesota Supreme Court by Governor Mark Dayton. The Minnesota Supreme Court will now have a majority of women on the bench. McKeig is also the first American Indian justice to sit on the Minnesota Supreme Court. She is a member of the Minnesota Chippewa Tribe.

Justice McKeig is a 1989 graduate of Saint Catherine University in St. Paul, Minnesota. She earned her law degree at Hamline University, which is also in St. Paul. She served for 15 years as prosecutor in the child protection division of Hennepin County in Minnesota. Judge McKeig was appointed to the fourth judicial district court in 2008.
