Beverly Davenport to Lead the University of Cincinnati

Provost Beverly Davenport, studio portraitSanta J. Ono, president of the University of Cincinnati is leaving his post to become president of the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada. The board of trustees of the University of Cincinnati has chosen Beverly Davenport to serve as interim president as of July 15.

The state-operated research university enrolls more than 24,000 undergraduate students and more than 11,000 graduate students. Women make up 50 percent of the undergraduate student body.

Since 2013, Dr. Davenport has served as provost and senior vice president for academic affairs at the university. Earlier, she was vice provost for faculty affairs at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana.

Dr. Davenport is a graduate of Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green. She earned a Ph.D. in communication from the University of Michigan.
