A New Leader for Marywood University in Scranton, Pennsylvania

The next president of Marywood UniversityThe board of trustees of Marywood University in Scranton, Pennsylvania, has selected Sister Mary Persico as the educational institution’s 12th president. She will take office on July 1.

Marywood University enrolls about 2,000 undergraduate students and 1,000 graduate students. Women make up two thirds of the undergraduate student body.

Dr. Persico has been serving as executive vice president or Trinity Health in Livonia, Michigan, one of the largest multi-institutional Catholic health care delivery systems in the nation. Earlier, she was president of the Congregation of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, from 2002-2010.

A graduate of Marywood University with a bachelor’s degree in French education, Dr. Persico holds a master’s degree in French from Assumption College in Worcester, Massachusetts. She earned a second’s master’s degree and an educational doctorate from Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.
