Misericordia University Promotes Three Women and Grants Them Tenure

Misericordia University in Dallas, Pennsylvania, just west of Scranton, enrolls about 3,000 students. Women make up 68 percent of the undergraduate student body at the university, which is affiliated with the Roman Catholic Church.

The university recently announced that five faculty members had been promoted and granted tenure. Three of these promotions went to women.

Amanda M. Caleb was promoted to associate professor of English. She joined the faculty at the university in 2010. She is a graduate of Davidson College in North Carolina, where she majored in English literature and gender studies. Dr. Caleb holds a master’s degree in nineteenth-century studies and a Ph.D. in English literature from the University of Sheffield in England.

Kelly Filipkowski was a promoted to associate professor of psychology. Dr. Filipkowski is a graduate of the State University of New York at Oswego, where she majored in psychology. She holds a master’s degree in sports psychology from Florida State University. Dr. Filipkowski earned a second master’s degree and a Ph.D. in social psychology at Syracuse University in New York.

Kathleen Sheikh was granted tenure and promoted to associate professor of nursing. She is a nationally certified nurse practitioner and operates a practice specializing in women’s health. Dr. Sheikh is a graduate of the nursing program at Villanova University in suburban Philadelphia. She earned a master’s degree in nursing from Misericordia University and a doctorate from Widener University in Chester, Pennsylvania.
