Laurie Glimcher to Lead the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston

Laurie GlimcherLaurie H. Glimcher, the Stephen and Suzanne Weiss Dean of the Weill Cornell Medical College in New York and provost for medical affairs at Cornell University, was appointed president and chief executive officer at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston.

The institute was founded in 1947 to conduct research on cancer in children. It’s mission was expanded to include research and treatment of patients of all ages. The institute employs 4,000 people and has 300,000 patient visits annually. The Dana-Farber Cancer Institute is a principal teaching affiliate of Harvard Medical School.

Dr. Glimcher was named dean of the Weill Cornell Medical College in 2012. Previously, she was the Irene Heinz Given Professor of Immunology at the Harvard School of Public Health and professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School.

Dean Glimcher is a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, a member of the National Academy of Sciences, and a member of the Institute of Medicine of the National Academy of Sciences. She also is a member and past president of the American Association of Immunologists.

Dr. Glimcher is a magna cum laude graduate of Harvard University and completed her medical training at Harvard Medical School.
