Seven Women Scholars Are Named to Dean Positions at Major Universities

Neubrander_Judy-214x300Judy Neubrander was named dean of the Mennonite College of Nursing at Illinois State University. She has been serving as director of the School of Nursing at Western Carolina University in Cullowhee, North Carolina.

Dr. Neubrander is a graduate of William Jewell College in Liberty, Missouri. She holds a master’s degree in education and adult health from the University of Kansas and a doctorate from North Carolina State University in Raleigh. She earned a family nurse practitioner postgraduate certificate from the University of Alabama.

stantonBonita Stanton was appointed the founding dean of the School of Medicine established by Seton Hall University and the Hackensack University Health Network in New Jersey. The new medical school is expected to enroll its first students in the fall of 2018. For the past four years, Dr. Stanton has served as vice dean for research at the School of Medicine at Wayne State University in Detroit.

Dr. Stanton is a graduate of Wellesley College in Massachusetts and the Yale University School of Medicine in Connecticut.

mojeElizabeth Moje was named interim dean of the School of Education at the University of Michigan, effective July 1. She currently serves as the Arthur F. Thurnau Professor and associate dean for research and community education in the School of Education. Professor Moje joined the faculty at the university in 1997.

Dr. Moje is a graduate of Concordia College in Ann Arbor, Michigan, where she majored in history and political science. She holds a master’s degree in reading education from Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti and a Ph.D. in literacy and language from Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana.

Fitzgerald_MargaretMargaret Fitzgerald was named dean of the College of Human Development and Education at North Dakota State University in Fargo. She has served as interim dean since last summer. Dr. Fitzgerald is a professor and chair of the department of health, nutrition, and exercise sciences at the university. Professor Fitzgerald has served on the university’s faculty for more than 25 years.

Dr. Fitzgerald is a graduate of North Dakota State University. She earned a master’s degree in family resources and human development from Arizona State University and a Ph.D. in human development and family studies from Iowa State University.

Anna-ScheyettAnna Scheyett was appointed dean of the School of Social Work at the University of Georgia, effective July 1. Currently, she serves as dean of the College of Social Work at the University of South Carolina. She has served in that role since 2011.

Dr. Scheyett is a graduate of Dickinson College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, where she majored in English. She holds a master’s degree in human genetics from Yale University and a master of social work degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hills. Dr. Scheyett earned a doctorate in social work at Memorial University of Newfoundland in Canada.

mariale-hardiman-verticalMariale Hardiman was named interim dean of the School of Education at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore. She is vice dean for academic affairs and a professor of clinical education at the university. Before joining the faculty at Johns Hopkins, she served as an administrator for the Baltimore City Public Schools.

Dr. Hardiman holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Loyola University of Maryland. She earned an educational doctorate at Johns Hopkins University.

Amanda Moore McBride has been chosen as the next dean of the Graduate School of Social Work at the University of Denver. She will take office in July 1. Currently, Dr. McBride is the Bettie Bofinger Brown Associate Professor at the School of Social Work at Washington University in St. Louis. There, she also serves as director of the Gephardt Institute for Civic and Community Engagement.

Dr. McBride is a graduate Hendrix College in Arkansas. She holds a master of social work degree and a Ph.D. from the School of Social Work at Washington University.
