In Memoriam: Jean Francine Dummer, 1932-2016

jean dummerJean Dummer, professor emerita at Saint Catherine University in St. Paul, Minnesota, died on January 16 at Carondelet Village in St. Paul. She was 83 years old.

A native of Sykerston, North Dakota, Dummer enrolled at Saint Catherine University in 1950. At the end of her sophomore year, she joined the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet. Sister Dummer went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in English. After graduation, she joined the faculty at Saint Catherine University, teaching English and directing the school’s theater productions.

Later, Professor Summer earned a master’s degree in drama and secondary education at the Catholic University of America and a doctorate from the University of Nebraska. She served as a faculty member in the department of education at Saint Catherine University from 1973 until her retirement in 2005. She was the first director of the university’s master’s degree program in education.
