Five Women Assuming New Administrative Duties in Higher Education

melissa-yang_insideMelissa Yang was named director of the National Suborbital Education and Research Center in the School of Aerospace Sciences at the University of North Dakota. She has oversight of science operations for NASA’s airborne research platforms. She has been serving as a research physical scientist at NASA Langley Research Center in Virginia.

Dr. Yang holds a Ph.D. in analytical/atmospheric chemistry from the University of California, Irvine.

Hope Murphy TyehimbaHope Murphy Tyehimba was named chief legal counsel at North Carolina Central University in Durham. For the past five years, she has been assistant university legal counsel.

Tyehimba holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology and political science and a juris doctorate from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Steph-BarrySteph Barry was appointed assistant vice chancellor of alumni and community engagement at the University of California, San Diego. She was vice president for strategic projects at the WD-40 Company in San Diego.

Barry is a 1994 graduate of the University of California, San Diego, where she majored in political science. She holds a master’s degree in international business from the University of San Diego.

Alison Colwell, director of Investment Responsibility Stakeholder RelationsAlison Colwell is the new director of investment responsibility stakeholder relations at Stanford University in California. She was an associate director at BSR, a global nonprofit sustainability consulting organization.

Colwell is a graduate of Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario, and holds a master’s degree in public policy and administration from Carleton University in Ottawa, Canada.

susan_promisloSusan Promislo is the director of communication strategy in the Princeton University Office of Communication. For the past 13 years, she has worked for the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation in Princeton, most recently as senior communications officer.

Promislo is a graduate of Colgate University in Hamilton, New York, where she majored in international relations. She holds a master’s degree in communication from the University of Pennsylvania.
