In Memoriam: Claire S. Rudolph, 1926-2016

Clair-Rudolph_002Claire S. Rudolph, professor emerita of social work at Syracuse University in New York, died at her home in Syracuse on January 5. She was 89 years old.

A native of New York City, Dr. Rudolph came to Syracuse in 1952 to pursue graduate studies and lived there for the rest of her life. After earning a Ph.D. in social sciences, Dr. Rudolph joined Syracuse University’s faculty in 1965. She chaired the healthcare concentration in the School of Social Work for 20 years. Her research concentrated on perinatal care, domestic violence risks of pregnant women, and child health outcomes. She was the co-author of the book Regionalization: Issues in Intensive Care for High Risk Newborns and Their Families (Praeger, 1987).

In 1988, Syracuse University honored Dr. Rudolph with the Chancellor’s Citation for Exceptional Academic Achievement. After being named professor emerita in 1996, Dr. Rudolph directed the Social Work Continuing Education Program at the university.
