University of Louisiana Lafayette Recognized as a Breastfeeding-Friendly Workplace Champion

breastfeedingThe University of Louisiana Lafayette has announced a new Lactation Accommodation Policy for its campus. Lactation rooms have been set up in the student union, Bourgeois Hall, and the wellness center. Lactation information packets are available at each location.

As a result of the new policy, the university has been selected as a Breastfeeding-Friendly Workplace Champion by the Mary Amelia Women’s Health Center and the Louisiana Breastfeeding Coalition. To meet the criteria for selection as breastfeeding friendly, a workplace must offer:

  • Reasonable break times for working mothers to pump breast milk.
  • At least one permanent clean, private, and safe place for lactation.
  • A working sink in the lactation room.
  • Lactation support communicated to all employees.
