Julie Wollman Appointed the Tenth President of Widener University

WollmanThe board of trustees of Widener University has chosen Julie Wollman as the tenth president of the educational institution. She will take office on January 19, 2016.

Widener University’s main campus in Chester, Pennsylvania, enrolls about 3,300 undergraduate students and 1,500 graduate students. Women make up 55 percent of the undergraduate student body. Widener also operates small campuses in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, Exton, Pennsylvania, and Wilmington, Delaware.

Since June 2012, Dr. Wollman has been serving as president of Edinboro University of Pennsylvania. Prior to that appointment, Dr. Wollman served as vice president for academic affairs at Wheelock College in Boston. Earlier in her career she was a professor of elementary education and dean of the Feinstein School of Education and Human Development at Rhode Island College in Providence and later was vice president for academic affairs at what is now Worcester State University in Massachusetts.

A native of Philadelphia, Dr. Wollman is a graduate of Harvard University, where she majored in English and American literature and language. She holds a master’s degree from the University of Pennsylvania and a doctorate in elementary education from New York University.
