Three Women Stepping Down From High-Level University Posts

andersonMichelle J. Anderson, dean of the City University of New York School of Law, announced that she will step down as dean at the end of the current academic year. She will have served as dean of the law school for 10 years. Dean Anderson is an expert on laws relating to rape.

Professor Anderson is a graduate of the University of California, Santa Cruz and Yale Law School. She also holds a master’s degree in law from the Georgetown University Law Center.

Karen+AbrahamKaren Abraham, associate vice president of alumni relations and the executive director of the Alumni Association at the University of New Mexico, has announced her retirement. She has spent over a half century at the university as a student and administrator and has held her current posts since 1987.

Dr. Abraham holds a bachelor’s degree, and master’s degree, and an educational doctorate, all from the University of New Mexico.

pamela-hammondPamela V. Hammond, interim president of Virginia State University, has announced that she will step down on December 31. Dr. Hammond has been serving as interim president since January 1, 2015. She is the first woman to serve as president of the university.

Dr. Hammond is a graduate of Tuskegee University in Alabama, where she majored in nursing. She holds a master’s degree in maternal-child nursing from the University of Maryland-Baltimore and a doctorate in urban services from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia.
