Dorothy Horrell Named Chancellor of the University of Colorado at Denver

Dorothy_HorrellUniversity of Colorado President Bruce D. Benson has appointed Dr. Dorothy Horrell chancellor of the institution’s Denver campus. She will take office on January 4, 2016 but will serve as a special adviser to the president and work on the transition with outgoing chancellor Jerry Wartgow.

Dr. Horrell was appointed to the Colorado State University Board of Governors by Governor John Hickenlooper in 2009 and served as board chair from 2013 to 2015. She was president of the Colorado Community Colleges System, the state’s largest higher education system, from 1998-2000 and was president of Red Rocks Community College in Lakewood, Colorado, from 1989-1998.

Dr. Horrell holds bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees, all from Colorado State University.
