Scripps College Names Three Women to Endowed Chairs

scrippsScripps College, the highly rated liberal arts educational institution for women in Claremont, California, has announced the appointment of four faculty members to endowed chairs. Three of the four faculty members named to endowed chairs are women.

Marina-Perez-de-Mendiola-300x300Marina Perez de Mendiola holds the Richard Armour Chair in Modern Languages. She is the editor of Bridging the Atlantic: Latin American and Iberian Thought (State University of New York Press, 1996). Professor Perez de Mendiola holds a bachelor’s degree, a master’s degree, and a Ph.D. in Latin American literatures and cultures from the University of Paris-Sorbonne.

Nathale-RachlinNathalie Rachlin was appointed to the Margaret McKenzie Distinguished Professorship in Modern Foreign Languages. She has been serving as a professor of French. Dr. Rachlin holds a master’s degree from Universite Paul Valery in Montpellier, France. She earned a Ph.D. at Princeton University.

Rita RobertsRita Roberts was named to the Nathaniel Wright Stephenson Chair in History and Biography. A professor of history and African studies, Dr. Roberts is the author of Evangelicalism and the Politics of Reform in Northern Black Thought, 1776-1863 (Louisiana State University Press, 2010). Professor Roberts is a graduate of Southern Illinois University. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley.
