University of Maryland’s Debra Shapiro Now Leads the Academy of Management

ShapiroDebraDeborah L. Shapiro, a professor in the Robert H. Smith School of Business at the University of Maryland at College Park, is the new president of the Academy of Management. She began her one-year term as leader at the academy’s recent annual meeting in Vancouver, British Columbia. The Academy of Management has approximately 20,000 members from 115 countries around the world.

Dr. Shapiro joined the faculty at the University of Maryland in 2000. She previously served as a professor of management and associate dean at the Kenan-Flagler Business School at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Professor Shapiro is the co-author of The Psychology of Negotiation in the 21st-Century Workplace: New Challenges and Solutions (Routledge, 2012) and Managing Multinational Teams: Global Perspectives (Elsevier/JAI Press, 2005).

Professor Shapiro is a graduate of the University of Maryland, where she majored in psychology. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in organizational behavior from Northwestern University.
