Oberlin College History Professor Carol Lasser to Lead SHEAR

lasserCarol Lasser, a professor of history at Oberlin College in Ohio, recently was named president-elect of the Society for Historians of the Early American Republic (SHEAR). The society was established in 1977 and represents about 1,000 historians whose primary focus is on events between 1776 and 1781. Professor Lasser will serve for one year as president-elect and then become president of the society in August 2016.

At Oberlin College, Professor Lasser also serves as director of the Gender, Sexuality & Feminist Studies program. She joined the college’s faculty in 1980. Dr. Lasser has authored or edited several books including Antebellum Women: Private, Public, Partisan (Rowman & Littlefield, 2010).

Professor Lasser is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. from Harvard University.
