In Memoriam: Martha Andrews Nord, 1942-2015

Marty Nord, a longtime professor of communications at the Owen Graduate School of Management at Vanderbilt University, died on July 28 at her home in Nashville. She was 73 years old and had suffered from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s disease.

Dr. Nord joined the faculty at Vanderbilt in 1978. She taught courses on business and technical communication. Professor Nord also served as director of the Vanderbilt Women in Engineering Program. She left the faculty in 1993 to concentrate on her consulting business.

Professor Nord was a graduate of what is now Randolph-Macon College in Ashland, Virginia. She held a master’s degree from the University of Arkansas and a Ph.D. in English from Vanderbilt University.
