In Memoriam: Lois Marie Sutton, 1925-2015

suttonLois Marie Sutton, professor emerita of French at Baylor University in Waco, Texas, died on June 17 in Waco after a brief illness. She was 89 years old.

A native of Fort Worth, Texas, Professor Sutton held bachelor’s and doctoral degrees from the University of Texas at Austin and a master’s degree from Baylor University. Dr. Sutton joined the Baylor University faculty in 1945 and taught courses in French, Spanish, and Italian.

In the 1980s she was chair of the department of modern languages at Baylor. She retired from teaching in 1994 after serving on the faculty for nearly a half-century. In 2004, the university presented Dr. Sutton with the Herbert H. Reynolds Award for Exemplary Service.
