Chatham University President Announces Her Retirement

EstherBarazzone0Esther L. Barazzone, the president of Chatham University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, has announced that she will retire at the end of the 2015-16 academic year. Dr. Barazzone has led the university since 1992.

Chatham College for Women was founded in 1869 as Pennsylvania Female College. In 1994 co-educational graduate programs were instituted. This coming fall, men will be admitted to the undergraduate college for the first time. During President Barazzone’s tenure, the university’s endowment has grown from $35 million to $85 million.

Dr. Barazzone is a member of the inaugural graduating class of New College in Sarasota, Florida. She earned a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in European intellectual history from Columbia University.
