MIT’s Sangeeta Bhatia to Receive a $250,000 Heinz Award

BhatiaSangeeta Bhatia, the John J. and Dorothy Wilson Professor of Health Sciences and Technology and Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, has been selected to receive the 2015 Heinz Award for Technology, the Economy, and Employment. Dr. Bhatia, who is also an investigator for the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, is being honored for her work in tissue engineering, disease detection, and for her efforts to increase the number of women in STEM disciplines.

The Heinz Award, presented by the Heinz Family Foundation comes with a $250,000 prize. Professor Bhatia will receive the award in Pittsburgh on May 13.

Dr. Bhatia is a graduate of Brown University and Harvard Medical School. She holds a master’s degree in mechanical engineering and a Ph.D. in biomedical engineering from MIT.
