Grants or Gifts Relating to Women in Higher Education

money_bagHere is this week’s news of grants and gifts that may be of particular interest to women in higher education.

A group of researchers at Florida State University received a $250,000 grant from the Vandermark Foundation to create an online toolkit to foster healthy co-parenting techniques for families who have experienced a divorce. The researchers hope to seek certification for the online course as an approved mandatory parenting program for divorcing parents in Florida.

The Maxine Platzer Lynn Women’s Center at the University of Virginia received a $37,777 grant from the ultra-secret Seven Society, a university organization that funds good works projects on campus. Sharon Davie, the director of the Women’s Center found a note announcing the grant from the Seven Society tacked to the front door of her home. The grant will fund programs “aimed at cultivating student leadership on critical issues relating to gender and sex.”

Salem College, a liberal arts college for women in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, received a $200,000 grant from Wells Fargo Inc. to endow the Wells Fargo Need-Based Scholarship Fund. The fund will provide 20 scholarships for students needing financial aid over the next two academic years.

The Women in Engineering Program at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana, received a $85,000 Google Rise Award partnership grant. The grant program will fund extracurricular computer science programs for young girls ages 8 to 16.
