Four Women in New Teaching Posts

robertoKaren A. Roberto was appointed a Distinguished Professor at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in Blacksburg. Dr. Roberto joined the College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences at Virginia Tech in 1996 as the director of the Center for Gerontology. In 2006 she was named as the founding director of the Institute for Society, Culture, and Environment.

Professor Roberto is a graduate of Indiana University of Pennsylvania, where she majored in psychology. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in human development from Texas Tech University in Lubbock.

gollandPolina Golland was promoted to full professor in the department of electrical engineering and computer science at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Dr. Golland joined the faculty at MIT in 2003.

Professor Golland earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Technion: Israel Institute of Technology in Haifa. She holds a Ph.D. in electrical engineering and computer science from MIT.

Cecilia_MenjivarCecilia Menjivar was named a Foundation Distinguished Professor at the University of Kansas. She will join the faculty at the university this fall. Currently, she is a Distinguished Professor and associate director for faculty development in the School of Social and Family Dynamics at Arizona State University.

Professor Menjivar has been on the faculty at Arizona State since 1996. She holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology and sociology and a master’s degree in international education from the University of Southern California. Dr. Menjivar earned a second master’s degree and a Ph.D. in sociology at the University of California, Davis.

D68025_08Pat Mulroy was appointed senior fellow for climate adaptation and environmental policy at the William S. Boyd School of Law of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. She will also serve as a practitioner-in-residence for the Saltman Center for Conflict Resolution at the university. She is the former general manager of the Las Vegas Valley Water District and the Southern Nevada Water Authority.

Mulroy also serves as the Maki Distinguished Faculty Associate at the Desert Research Institute, the environmental research arm of the Nevada System of Higher Education.
