Three Women Scholars Elected to Lead National Organizations

brayJane Bray, dean of the Darden College of Education at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia, was named chair-elect of the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education. She will serve as chair-elect for one year and then become chair in 2016.

Dr. Bray joined the faculty at Old Dominion University in 2013. Previously, she was dean of education and associate provost at Millersville University in Pennsylvania. Dr. Bray holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Kutztown University in Pennsylvania and earned an educational doctorate from Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.

davidson_nancyNancy E. Davidson was named president-elect of the American Association for Cancer Research. She will serve for one year as president-elect and then become president of the association in April 2016. Dr. Davidson is a highly regarded scientist in breast cancer research. She is a professor of medicine and associate vice chancellor for cancer research at the University of Pittsburgh. Before joining the faculty at the University of Pittsburgh, in 2009, Dr. Davidson was a professor of oncology at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore.

Professor Davidson is a graduate of Wellesley College in Massachusetts, where she majored in molecular biology. She received her medical training at Harvard Medical School.

Gilda_BarabiGilda Barabino, dean of the Grove School of Engineering at the City College of New York, was named president-elect of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering. She will begin a two-year term as president of the institute in 2016.

A respected researcher in the study of sickle cell disease, Dr. Barabino became dean at City College in 2013. Previously, she taught at Georgia Tech, Emory University, and Northeastern University. Dr. Barabino is a graduate of Xavier University of Louisiana and holds a Ph.D. from Rice University in Houston.
