New Book Award Honors Hollins University Alumna Margaret Wise Brown

MWBrownHollins University, the women’s college in Roanoke, Virginia, has announced the establishment of the Margaret Wise Brown Prize in Children’s Literature. The award, that will be presented for the first time in 2016, will honor the best text for a picture book published during the previous year. Winners will receive a cash award, an engraved bronze medal, and an invitation to speak during the summer session of Hollins University’s graduate program in children’s literature.

Margaret Wise Brown was a 1932 graduate of Hollins University. She was the author of such children’s classics as Goodnight Moon and The Runaway Bunny. Brown died in 1952.

Hollins University offers a master’s degree in the study of children’s literature and master of fine arts degrees in writing children’s literature and children’s book writing and illustrating.
