Here Are Three New Women Deans

livingstonCarolyn H. Livingston was appointed dean of students and vice president for student life at Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota. She currently serves as senior associate vice president for campus life and Title IX coordinator at Emory University in Atlanta. She will take on her new role on June 22.

Dr. Livingston has been an administrator at Emory since 2006. Previously, she was an admissions officer at the University of Virginia. Dr. Livingston is a graduate of North Carolina State University in Raleigh, where she majored in mathematics. She holds a master’s degree in counselor education and a doctorate in higher education administration from the University of Virginia.

Mia-TuanMia Tuan was named dean of the College of Education at the University of Washington in Seattle. She is a professor of education studies and interim dean of the College of Education at the University of Oregon. She will begin her new job on July 1.

Dr. Tuan joined the faculty at the University of Oregon in 1996 as an assistant professor of sociology. She is the author of three books including Forever Foreigners or Honorary Whites?: The Asian Ethnic Experience Today (Rutgers University Press, 1999). Professor Tuan is a magna cum laude graduate of the University of California, Berkeley. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in sociology from the University of California, Los Angeles.

creweSandra Crewe was appointed dean of the School of Social Work at Howard University in Washington, D.C. An expert on aging and quality of life issues, Dr. Crewe has been acting dean since July 2013. She is a professor of social work and director of the Howard University Multidisciplinary Gerontology Center. She joined the faculty at the university in 1997.

Dr. Crewe holds a bachelor’s degree and a master of social work degree from the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. She was the first individual to earn a Ph.D. in social work at Howard University.
