University of Missouri-Kansas City Economist Heading to Washington

keltonStephanie Kelton, an associate professor and chair of the department of economics at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, has been named chief economist representing Democratic members of the Senate Budget Committee. She is taking a leave of absence from her faculty role to serve in Washington.

Dr. Kelton joined the faculty at the University of Missouri-Kansas City in 1999 and was appointed department chair in 2012. She is the co-editor of The State, the Market, and the Euro: Metallism Versus Chartalism in the Theory of Money (Edward Elgar Press, 2003).

Dr. Kelton is a graduate of California State University, Sacramento. She holds a master’s degree in economics from Cambridge University in the United Kingdom and a Ph.D. in economics from The New School for Social Research in New York City.
