The Provost at the University of Michigan Has Her Contract Extended

Martha Pollack was appointed provost at the University of Michigan in May 2013. Now the board of regents has extended her contract for a period of three additional years. Thus, she will remain as provost at least until June 30, 2018.

“Provost Pollack has an impressive track record of accomplishment,” said University of Michigan President Mark Schlissel. “She has been an innovative and disciplined budget leader for the campus and under her leadership, the university has made important strides in both holding down tuition costs and providing more financial aid to students.”

Dr. Pollack joined the faculty at the University of Michigan in 2000, after teaching for nine years at the University of Pittsburgh. She has served in several positions at the University of Michigan including professor of computer science, professor of information, dean of the School of Information, associate chair of computer science and engineering, and vice provost for academic and budgetary affairs.

Dr. Pollack is a graduate of Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in computer and information science from the University of Pennsylvania.
