Grants or Gifts Relating to Women in Higher Education

money_bagHere is this week’s news of grants and gifts that may be of particular interest to women in higher education.

WEB-Yuliya-GorbThe University of Houston received a $420,000 grant from the National Science Foundation for research on complex composite materials. Part of the grant will be used to fund an outreach program to increase interest in STEM fields among high school girls. The grant program is under the direction of Yuliya Gorb, an assistant professor of mathematics at the university. Dr. Gorb earned a Ph.D. at Pennsylvania State University.

Scripps College, the highly rates liberal arts educational institution in Claremont, California, received a $100,000 grant from the Hearst Foundations to support the college’s Undergraduate Research Program. The grant will help fund summer research in the humanities, fine arts, and the social sciences as well as research conducting for senior thesis projects.

The University of Alabama at Birmingham is the lead institution in a six-year, $19,310,000 grant project funded by the National Institutes of Health. The grant will fund research into drug treatment of mild chronic hypertension among pregnant women.
