In Memoriam: Paulette Gail Burns, 1949-2014

Paulette-BurnsPaulette Burns, dean of the Harris College of Nursing and Health Sciences at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, died on December 12. She was 65 years old and suffered from pancreatic cancer. After being diagnosed with cancer last winter, she took a medical leave of absence from the university.

Dr. Burns became dean in 2006. She had been on the faculty at the university since 2001. Previously, Dr. Burns was director of the Tulsa campus of the University of Oklahoma College of Nursing. She began her career in the U.S. Army Nurse Corps.

Dr. Burns was a native of Beaver, Oklahoma. She earned a bachelor’s degree at the University of Maryland and held a master’s degree from the University of Oklahoma and a Ph.D. from Texas Woman’s University
