Donna Nelson to Lead the American Chemical Society

DonnaNelsonDonna Nelson, a professor of organic chemistry at the University of Oklahoma, was named president-elect of the American Chemical Society, the world’s largest scientific society with more than 161,000 members. Professor Nelson will serve as president-elect in 2015 and then become president of the society in 2016.

In addition to teaching, Dr. Nelson was science adviser for the television series Breaking Bad. She has also done extensive research on faculty diversity in STEM fields at U.S. universities.

Dr. Nelson is a graduate of the University of Oklahoma. She received her Ph.D. at the University of Texas at Austin and did postdoctoral research at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana.
