West Virginia University First-Year Student Elected to the State Legislature

blairEighteen-year-old Saira Blair is a first-year student at West Virginia University. She is also the winner of a seat in the West Virginia legislature. When she takes office, Blair will be the youngest state legislator in the country.

In May, Blair defeated a two-term incumbent in the Republican primary. On Tuesday, November 4, Blair won the 59th House District by a whopping 63 percent to 30 percent margin over her closest opponent. Her father serves in the West Virginia State Senate.

Blair, a fiscal conservative and a Republican, will take off the spring semester to participate in legislative sessions and then return to the university in the summer and fall. She is majoring in economics.
