New Faculty Posts for Six Women Scholars

arriagaTrudy Tuttle Arriaga will join the faculty in the Graduate School of Education at California Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks, California, in the summer of 2015. She is currently the superintendent of the Ventura Unified School District, a post she has held for the past 14 years. Dr. Arriaga will hold the title of Distinguished Educator in Residence and will teach classes in master’s and doctoral studies programs.

Dr. Arriaga is a graduate of San Diego State University, where she majored in communication disorders. She earned a master’s degree at California State University, Northridge and a doctorate in educational policy, planning, and administration from the University of Southern California in Los Angeles.

northern_kathyKathy S. Northern was named to the The Robert M. Duncan/Jones Day Designated Professorship at the Michael E. Moritz School of Law at Ohio State University. She joined the faculty at Ohio State in 1991 after teaching at Ohio Northern University in Ada.

Professor Northern is a graduate of Williams College in Williamstown, Massachusetts, and Harvard Law School.

laurasandsLaura P. Sands is a new full professor in the department of human development at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. She was the Katherine Birck Professor of Nursing and director of research for the School of Nursing at Purdue University.

Professor Sands holds bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees, all from the University of California, Berkeley.

ShannonKelly Shannon was appointed professor of architecture and director of the master of landscape architecture program at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. Her appointment is effective on January 1. Professor Shannon has been serving as a professor of landscape architecture at the Oslo School of Architecture.

Dr. Shannon is a graduate of Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh. She holds a master of architecture degree from the Berlage Institute in The Netherlands and a doctorate in applied sciences from the University of Leuven in Belgium.

Katherine_SullivanKatherine Sullivan was named chair of the nursing department in the School of Health Studies at Berkeley College. The college operates several campus in the New York metropolitan area.

Dr. Sullivan is a graduate of Jersey City State College. She holds a master’s degree in nursing from Rutgers University and a doctorate in nursing education from the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley.

grenobleLenore A. Grenoble was appointed the John Matthews Manly Distinguished Service Professor in Linguistics at the University of Chicago. She specializes in Slavic and Arctic indigenous languages. She joined the faculty at the University of Chicago in 2007.

Dr. Grenoble earned a Ph.D. in Slavic languages from the University of California, Berkeley.
