Grants or Gifts Relating to Women in Higher Education

money_bagHere is this week’s news of grants and gifts that may be of particular interest to women in higher education.

The New York University College of Nursing received a $100,000 grant from the Cigna Foundation for a pilot program called Helping Women Help Themselves to Improve Heart Health. The program is designed to promote healthy behaviors for racial minority and older women at risk for heart disease.

The University of Arizona College of Medicine in Phoenix received a $200,000 grant from the Finn Foundation to conduct research on cervical cancer. The research will be under the direction of Melissa Herbst-Kralovetz, an assistant professor of basic medical sciences, and Dana Chase, an assistant professor of gynecologic oncology at the University of Arizona Cancer Center.

Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Virginia, received a $100,000 grant from the Jeffress Trust Awards Program in Interdisciplinary Research to investigate a possible link between obesity and infertility in women.

DONOR - EXTERIOR 2 - NIGHT_14-1105.psdThe University of California, Davis received a $5 million donation from the late Ann E. Pitzer, a member of the Class of 1958. A former member of the board of trustees of the university’s foundation, Pitzer died on October 15. As a result of the gift, a new classroom building and recital hall will be named in Pitzer’s honor. Earlier, Pitzer has created an endowed scholarship fund at the university and had made a $1 million donation to the university’s Education Abroad Center.
