University of Iowa to Add Three Full-Time Sexual Assault Prevention Specialists

iowa_logoThe University of Iowa has announced that it is establishing three new staff positions for specialists in efforts to prevent sexual assault. The Women’s Resource & Action Center will add a new prevention specialist to its staff and another position will be upgraded from part-time to full-time. In addition, the university’s Rape Victim Advocacy Program will hire a new sexual violence prevention expert to its staff.

Mason-02_webpageSally Mason, president of the University of Iowa, stated that the university “takes the issue of sexual assault very seriously, and there is absolutely no place for this crime on our campus. The university is committed to doing everything in its power to prevent sexual violence, provide support to survivors, and hold offenders accountable. We will continue to address this problem and create a culture where sexual assault isn’t tolerated.”

Tom Rocklin, vice president for student life added that “these new resources will substantially increase our prevention education efforts and make a real difference on our campus. Finding ways to prevent sexual violence, support survivors, and hold offenders responsible continues to be a top priority.”
