New Teaching Assignments at Colleges and Universities for Five Women

hwilson-webHeather Wilson-Robles was named to the Dr. Fred A. and Vola N. Palmer Chair in Comparative Oncology at Texas A&M University College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences. She has been serving as an associate professor in the department of small animal clinical sciences.

Dr. Wilson-Robles earned her doctorate in veterinary medicine at the University of Tennessee.

YildizSevin Yildiz was appointed assistant professor of urban studies at Barnard College in New York City. She has been an adjunct professor at Barnard and Columbia University for the past two academic years.

Dr. Yildiz is a graduate of Istanbul Technical University in Turkey. She holds a master’s degree from Catholic University in Leuven, Belgium, and earned a Ph.D. in urban systems in a joint program of Rutgers University and the New Jersey Institute of Technology.

Tanjala PurnellTanjala S. Purnell was named an assistant professor in the department of surgery at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore. She holds a joint appointment in the department of epidemiology.

Dr. Purnell is a summa cum laude graduate of Tougaloo College in Mississippi, where she majored in computer science. She holds a master of public health degree from Ohio State University and a Ph.D. from Johns Hopkins University.

meredithsteeleMeredith Steele was appointed assistant professor in the department of crop and soil environmental science at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. She was a postdoctoral associate at the Nicholas School of the Environment at Duke University.

Dr. Steele holds two bachelor’s degrees and a master’s degree in soil science from the University of Maryland. She earned a Ph.D. in soil science from Texas A&M University.

bortonJennifer Borton was promoted to full professor of psychology at Hamilton College in Clinton, New York. She joined the faculty at the high-ranking liberal arts college in 1998.

Professor Borton is a graduate of Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire, and earned a Ph.D. in social psychology from the University of Minnesota.
