Five Women Scholars Honored With National Awards

YaeBin KimYaeBin Kim, an assistant professor and early care and education specialist for University of Nevada Cooperative Extension received the first place award in the human development/family relationships program from the National Extension Association of Family and Consumer Sciences. She was honored for the development of her Little Books and Little Cooks program which trains pre-K children in reading skills and helps them learn good nutrition habits.

Dr. Kim holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Ewha Women’s University in South Korea. She earned a Ph.D. in human development and family studies from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

lubchencofeatJane Lubchenco, University Distinguished Professor in marine science at Oregon State University, has been selected to receive the fourth annual Stephen H. Schneider Award for Outstanding Climate Science Communication from Climate One. Dr. Lubchenco is the former director of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association.

Professor Lubchenco is a graduate of Colorado College and holds a master’s degree in zoology from the University of Washington and a Ph.D. in marine ecology from Harvard University.

PhyllisMillerPhyllis Miller, a professor in the School of Human Sciences at Mississippi State University, won the Best of Show Award at the 105th American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences National Conference for her textile designs.

Dr. Miller is a graduate of Mundelein College, which has since merged with Loyola University of Chicago. She holds a master’s degree from Michigan State University and a Ph.D. from the University of Tennessee.

SchulmanJane E. Schulman, vice president of the Division of Adult and Continuing Education at LaGuardia Community College in Long Island City, New York, received the National Leadership Award from the National Council for Continuing Education and Training.

Schulman has been on the staff at the college for more than 30 years. She is a graduate of the State University of New York at New Paltz and holds a master’s degree in guidance and counseling from Brooklyn College of the City University of New York.

LaceyBernardine M. Lacey, the founding dean of the School of Nursing at Western Michigan University and the former chair of the department of nursing at Delaware State University, was named a Living Legend by the American Academy of Nursing.

Dr. Lacey is a graduate of Georgetown University. She earned a master’s degree at Howard University and an educational doctorate at Teachers College of Columbia University in New York City.
