Denise Battles to Lead the Association of Chief Academic Officers

battlesDenise A. Battles, provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs at the University of North Carolina, Wilmington, was appointed vice president and president-elect of the Association of Chief Academic Officers. The association was founded earlier this year. It is the first national organization representing chief academic officers from all accredited higher education institutions in the nation.

Dr. Battles has been provost at UNC, Wilmington since 2012. Previously, she was the founding dean of the College of Natural and Health Sciences at the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley. Dr. Battles began her academic career at Georgia Southern University in 1990, as an assistant professor of geology.

Dr. Battles holds a bachelor’s degree in geology from Colgate University in Hamilton, New York, and Ph.D. in geology from the University of California, Los Angeles.
