In Memoriam: Mildred L. Johnson, 1918-2014

johnsonMildred L. Johnson, the first woman appointed to the North Dakota Board of Higher Education, died on September 12 at her home in Perham, Minnesota. She was 96 years old.

Johnson was the only woman in the 1939 graduating class of the University of North Dakota Law School. After graduation, she practiced law for 48 years with her husband Vernon. In 1952 Johnson was appointed to the North Dakota Board of Higher Education and served until 1966.

In 1971 the library at the North Dakota State College of Science was named in her honor. She had taught business law at the College of Science for more than years.
