Women Making Slow Progress in Engineering Faculty Positions

imageA report from the American Society for Engineering Education show that women are making steady but very slow progress in increasing their percentage of all faculty members in engineering disciplines. In 2004, women made up 10.4 percent of all engineering faculty at U.S. colleges and universities. Over the next decade, women have increased their percentage of all engineering faculty each and every year. By 2013, women were 14.5 percent of all engineering faculty.

At universities with a minimum of 25 faculty members in engineering, the highest percentage of women faculty is at the Franklin W. Olin College of Engineering in Needham, Massachusetts. There, women held 38.9 percent of all engineering faculty posts. The only other universities where women were at least one third of all engineering faculty were Rowan University in Glassboro, New Jersey, and Santa Clara University in California.
