Towson University President Takes a Leave of Absence

loeschkeMaravene Loeschke, president of Towson University in Maryland, announced that she was taking a leave of absence from her post for the remainder of 2014. In April, President Loeschke stated that she had been diagnosed with cancer of the adrenal gland, had been operated on, and was expected to make a full recovery.

President Loeschke became president of Towson University on January 1, 2012. For the previous five years she has been president of Mansfield University in Pennsylvania. Earlier, she was provost at Wilkes University in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. Before that, she had served on the faculty at Towson for 30 years as a professor of drama. She is the author of three books including All About Mime: Understanding and Performing the Expressive Silence (Prentice Hall, 1982).

Dr. Loeschke holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Towson University. She earned a doctorate at the Union Institute in Cincinnati.
