Pomona College Professor Wins Two Awards for Her Book on Academic Profiling

Dr.OchoaOchoaBookGilda Ochoa, a professor of sociology and a professor of Chicana/o-Latina/o studies at Pomona College in Claremont, California, received two awards for her book Academic Profiling: Latinos, Asian Americans, and the Achievement Gap (University of Minnesota Press, 2013). The book looks at inequalities between Asian American and Latino/a students at two public high schools in California. Her book won awards from the American Sociological Association and the Society for the Study of Social Problems.

Professor Ochoa is a graduate of the University of California, Irvine. She earned a master’s degree and a Ph.D. from the University of California, Los Angeles.
