In Memoriam: Mary Gilmore Helming, 1918-2014

Helming, Mary GilmoreMary Gilmore Helming, professor emerita of nursing at the University of Massachusetts, died at her home in Manchester, Massachusetts on July 24. She was 96 years old.

A native of Magnolia, Massachusetts, Helming studied to be a registered nurse at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. She later graduated from the nursing school at Simmons College in Boston and earned a master’s degree in nursing at the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C.

Professor Helming taught nursing at Boston College and then became one of the founding members of the faculty at the nursing school at the University of Massachusetts.
