Carle Pieters Awarded the Medal of International Cooperation

Pieters1Carle Pieters, professor in the department of earth, environmental, and planetary sciences at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, has been awarded the Medal of International Cooperation by the Committee on Space Research, a division of the International Council on Science. The medal is awarded every two years to a “scientist who has made distinguished contributions to space science and whose work has contributed significantly to the promotion of international science cooperation.”

Professor Pieters has been a faculty member at Brown since 1980. She is a graduate of Antioch College. After graduation she worked in the Peace Corps in Malaysia. She then returned to the United States to earn a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in planetary sciences from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. After earning her doctorate, Dr. Pieters worked at the Johnson Space Center in Houston before joining the faculty at Brown.
